What is a Sound Bath?
A sound bath is a space held for those interested in healing and wholeness. A sound bath helps with coming back into balance with oneself. It is also an internal experience that's consciously intended towards well being, wholeness and harmony within ourselves.
How long is the session?
The average sound bath might last between 40 mins- 1 hour. We use simple soulful instruments like gongs, crystal bowls and the native american flute. These instruments help people to quiet their mind, and sometimes enter into deeper states of awareness where their brain is experiencing theta, alpha or gamma brain waves. Sound baths can be really rejuvenating for the body, mind and spirit.
What to expect:
We will be starting our sound bath by first setting the scene. Smudging the area with dry white sage. And offering mats or comfort pillows for sitting and laying purposes. I will make sure the space is clean and free from any outside distractions.
For the first 10-15 minutes of the session, we will start with setting our intentions and I will be guiding everyone thru a state of meditation to get them relaxed and ready to receive and let go.
We will then close off with the last 10 minutes in a closing prayer and a journalling session to write down our experience.
If anyone would like to share I will save an extra 5 minutes for this at the end of the journalling session.
How can sound be healing?
Sound is vibration and can have an energetic and physical effect on our bodies and minds. If someone is drilling up the pavement outside how do you experience that? Probably as harsh and grating and perhaps even physically uncomfortable. Other soothing sounds can bring the body back to its natural resonance and inner harmony. Through mirror neurons in the brain we can also begin to to psychologically mirror the healing calming sounds that we are hearing.
What should I bring?
Your intentions and an open mind. Also feel free to come with a journal, pen, water, yoga mat, dressed in white as in which the color of white represents healing in color therapy.
